Ok, so exactly what are FUF / Foof / Poof chairs?

If you've been shopping for a bean bag chair or furniture for children and teens, chances are you've come across something called a Foof chair. Also known as Poof chairs and FUF chairs, these are a type of bean bag chair that, well, doesn't have beans. Instead they are filled with small pieces of memory foam much like you would find in a sofa cushion.

History of the FUF / Foof / Poof chair:

On New Year's Eve, 1994, Matt Jung and Chip George, then sophomores at Hope College, decided an old beanbag of Matt's needed some rehab. Lacking beans, they refilled the bag with chunks of foam from Matt's worn-out couch. Some ripping and a few jagged stitches later, the Foof chair was born. Friends loved it, and before long Foofs became the rage at colleges throughout Michigan.

Why do they have 3 names?

Originally called a Poof chair by manufacturer Comfort Research, the name was changed to Foof for reasons unknown a few years back. As of November 2006, the name will again be changed to FUF for legal reasons. Whether you call it a Poof, Foof or FUF, the chairs remain the same.

Are FUF and LoveSac the same thing?

Yes and no. While FUF chairs are manufactured by Comfort Research, the LoveSac chairs are manufactured by, well, LoveSac. Both products are very similar: filled with memory foam and come in different sizes and fabrics.

Are they comfortable?

Are you kidding? In my opinion, these are probably the most comfortable chairs you will ever sit in!

How are these different from regular bean bags?

Bean bag chairs are filled with Polystyrene "beads". While comfortable, they are a harder than FUF chairs and have a tendency to flatten over time, which means you will periodically need to refill your bean bag chair. Foof chairs do not need to be refilled, but rather, re-foofed. You simply toss the chair in the air a few times and it's just as good as new.

Are Foof chairs safe for children?

Absolutely! Foof chairs are double stitched and double zippered with a safety lock. For additional safety, the Foof chair come with their zipper pull-tab removed. In case you need to open the zipper, just use a paper clip as your pull tab. Note: as with any product, children should be supervised using a FUF Chair.

What are the FUF covers made of?

Twill – 60% Polyester / 40% Cotton
Denim – 100% Denim Cotton
Velvet - 100% Nylon Faux Fur
Microfiber (Suede) – 100% Polymer Ultra-Micro fiber
Speciality – 100% Nylon Faux Fur

Can the FUF covers be removed?

Yes, you can remove the cover if you purchase the inner liner. Without the inner liner, the urethane foam-filling will be directly inside the cover and you will not be able to remove it.

How do I clean my FUF Chair?

All fabrics are machine-washable if purchased with the inner liner. Simply remove the cover and wash it. If you order your chair without the liner, you can spot clean it with mild soap or detergent.

Why does my chair looks smaller and flatter than the pictures on your site?

For ease of shipping, your FUF chair is vacuum compressed to less than 1/3rd of its original size. When you first take the chair out of the box, the foam has no air in it and needs some time to "Foof" back up. The chair will gain three-fourths of its original size within first 24 hours and then keep expanding to over the next few days until it reaches its original size. You can help speed up the process by "re-Foofing" your chair.

How do I re-foof my FUF chair?

From time to time, you will notice that your FUF Chair has flattened and is in need of re-foofing. Here is how to re-foof your chair:
How to re-foof your FUF Chair
  • Grip the seams of the chair
  • Toss the chair in the air, using a rolling motion
  • Continue foofing your chair by repeating the rolling, tossing motion several times
  • Enjoy!
